Dino Crisis 2
If the first installment was a tense thriller, the sequel hit the gas and turned into an action ride full of gunfire, explosions, and hordes of dinosaurs. Dino Crisis 2 decided to swap cautious ammunition conservation for an adrenaline-fueled slaughter — and that transformation suited it splendidly.
Instead of slow exploration, the game pushes the player forward with a continuous stream of enemies. The key innovation is the point/combo system: for fast and spectacular dinosaur kills you earn points that serve as currency for buying weapons, ammunition, and upgrades. This motivates an aggressive, flowing playstyle where hesitation does not pay off, but pressing the attack does.
The player controls a pair of characters — the returning Regina and the soldier Dylan — and progresses through a lush prehistoric jungle as well as facilities struck by a time anomaly. The environment is more varied and colorful than the gloomy corridors of the first game, the pace is brisker, and the arsenal significantly richer. Even so, the game maintains its tension thanks to the sheer number of adversaries and several unforgettable boss battles.
Dino Crisis 2 was developed by Capcom as a sequel to the successful brand and deliberately shifted its genre center of gravity from survival horror to pure action. This decision divided the fans, but many players still consider the sequel more entertaining and playable than the original installment precisely because of its uncompromising pace.
Thanks to the combination of fast action, a rewarding point system, and a still-attractive premise with dinosaurs, the game earned the position of a cult PlayStation classic. For many it represents the peak of the series and one of the reasons fans still long for its revival.
Why play it: For an uncompromising action ride where you mow down dinosaurs in spectacular combos and every battle is an adrenaline spectacle.
