A sensitive adventure about twins whose memories of a tragic night differ.

Tell Me Why is a story-driven adventure about twins Tyler and Alyson Ronan, who return to their family home in the Alaskan town of Delos Crossing after ten years apart. They're there to sell the house and close the book on the past — but their memories of the night their mother died differ from one another. The game is split into three episodes, and its core mechanic is exactly this negotiation over memory: the siblings can replay scenes from childhood, and the player must choose which version to believe. The choice isn't just for dramatic effect — it gradually changes the twins' relationship and how they perceive their family. Neither version is ever marked as the one and only truth.

Beyond the memories, the game also works with a book of fairy tales their mother wrote — the individual stories function both as keys to puzzles and as a picture of how a child processes things it doesn't understand. The pace is calm, with a lot of walking, listening, and talking; there's practically no action to speak of. The title also drew attention because Tyler is a transgender man, and the game portrays him as an ordinary character with his own life, not as a topic for debate. The game was released episode by episode, and each one takes roughly three hours to complete, so the whole doesn't exceed the length of a single movie marathon.

The Alaskan setting is rendered with great care — snowy forests, a small harbor, wooden houses, and winter light that lends everything a melancholic quality. The sound design features a subdued, mostly acoustic soundtrack that keeps the game in the register of an intimate drama. Reviews were favorable, praising the sensitivity of the storytelling and the atmosphere, with reservations about the weaker detective core and the limited scope of actual decision-making. Today, Tell Me Why is a quiet but powerful experience for one long afternoon, one that feels unusually personal within a major publisher's catalog. Consultants from an organization focused on transgender rights collaborated on the development, and the creators made no secret of it.
