Raze

Akční 2011 Addicting Games ⏱ Medium · ~3–10 h

A fast sci-fi run-and-gun shooter; simple Flash action without frills.

Raze was a straightforward sci-fi run-and-gun shooter that the Addicting Games portal offered in 2011 as fast, uncomplicated action without unnecessary frills. The player controls a soldier progressing through horizontally scrolling levels full of robotic enemies, collects weapons and upgrades, and advances through levels with a system that resembles classic arcade shooters more than modern action titles with an elaborate story.

The game's strength lay not in any major innovation, but in a clean, functional and straightforward feel, keyboard and mouse controls reacted quickly, weapon selection offered sufficient variety, and the game's pace remained brisk from start to finish, which made it a popular choice for short gaming sessions between other obligations. Raze fit into the broader trend of simple Flash shooter series that flooded gaming portals like Kongregate and Addicting Games at the time and competed mainly on the number of unlockable weapons, and its success led to several sequels that further developed the mechanics with new weapons, enemies and game modes, without fundamentally deviating from the original simple formula.

The game is today a typical representative of Flash action production, which after the discontinuation of Adobe Flash Player support in 2020 remained accessible only through emulators or archival projects like Flashpoint, otherwise the entire genre of simple web shooters would have practically disappeared from the reach of today's players.

Why play: For players who want a fast, undemanding action shootout without story detours, ideally as a short reminiscence of the Flash era of web games.
