Burrito Bison

Arkáda 2011 Juicy Beast ⏱ Short · up to ~3 h

Launch a wrestling bison through gummy bears; an addictive loop of unlocks and upgrades.

Burrito Bison launches a wrestling bison from a slingshot straight into a crowd of gummy bears, and the goal is to fly as far as possible, smashing bears along the way and spending the money earned on upgrades. The controls are simple – one mouse drag sets the launch power and angle, further clicks trigger bounces and special abilities during the flight – so the game controls just as easily as classic launcher titles, only with punchier graphics, humor, and a wrestling show built around the main character. It was released in 2011 by studio Juicy Beast and quickly became one of the most popular Flash games of its year on portals like Armor Games and Kongregate.

The magic of the game lies in its loop of gradual unlocking: every attempt earns currency that the player spends on better bounce surfaces, stronger launches, or new bison abilities, making the next flight a bit longer than the last. This mechanic of addictive improvement was part of what made Flash launchers so popular throughout the decade, and Burrito Bison pulled it off especially well thanks to its clarity, the fast pace of individual attempts, and clear visual feedback on every bounce. The colorful, slightly bizarre visuals with a wrestling theme gave the game its own identity, setting it apart from dozens of similar launcher-genre clones.

The success of the first installment led to the sequel Burrito Bison Revenge, which expanded the mechanic further with new areas and bosses and is somewhat better known today, but it was this original 2011 installment that gave birth to the series and showed that a simple idea involving a slingshot and gummy bears could entertain for hours.

Why play it: A great choice for fans of launcher games who want a short, addictive round with a sense of humor and gradual unlocking of upgrades.
