Flight
Flight is a physics toy whose only goal is to throw a paper airplane as far and as well as possible. The controls look primitive – a click-and-drag with the mouse sets the throw's direction and power, and the plane then flies on its own according to the game's physics, but real depth hides in the fine-tuning of angle, speed, and plane upgrades. The game was created in 2011 for Armor Games, at a time when the portal thrived on dozens of similarly simple but addictive Flash titles, and it quickly became one of its highlights thanks to the combination of easy mouse controls and the urge to beat your own record by a few more meters. The physics-launcher genre was at its peak back then, and Flight was one of the games that managed to squeeze surprisingly long playability out of a single mouse drag.
As you play, plane upgrades unlock – better paper, a modified wing, add-ons that change behavior mid-flight – so the player ends up building more of a distance-measuring machine than dealing with any story or graphics. Visually, Flight is deliberately spartan, with a paper sky background and simple flight animation, which only underlines that it's purely about the throw mechanic and physics, not an audiovisual experience. That very simplicity made it a favorite short break between other, more demanding games on Armor Games, and the game even got a loose sequel with revised tracks and new plane types.
Flight is a typical example of the Flash era: no big studio, no marketing, just a clever idea and a few weeks of development that still managed to entertain hundreds of thousands of players around the world. Today the game usually only runs through a Flash emulator, since browsers no longer support the format natively, and without one it remains just a memory of an era when similarly simple physics games appeared literally every week.
Why play it: Ideal for moments when you want a quick, almost meditative game with no pressure and no story, just the urge to throw a little farther than last time.
