A celebration of 30 years of the series; summons heroes from past entries like Marth and Lucina into battle.

Fire Emblem Engage, following the more introspective and politically complex Three Houses, returns to a clearer, more fairy-tale-like framing of good versus evil while also celebrating the series' thirtieth anniversary. As the awakened Divine Dragon, the player must gather twelve Emblem Rings containing the souls of heroes from previous Fire Emblem games, such as Marth, Celica, Lyn, or Lucina, and prevent the return of the malevolent Fell Dragon named Sombron, who once divided the continent of Elyos into four kingdoms.

The key mechanic is the Engage system itself — a temporary bond between a unit and a specific Emblem hero, granting unique abilities, weapons, and a devastating Engage Attack drawn from that character's history within the series, creating a direct tribute to previous installments for longtime fans. Because the bond is time-limited and charges up gradually, its timing becomes a separate tactical layer: activating it too early wastes a trump card, activating it too late risks losing the unit. The battle system remains faithful to classic Fire Emblem elements — permanent unit death, the weapon triangle between swords, axes, and lances, and tactical use of terrain — but enriches it with deeper build customization through combining a character's class with the chosen Emblem, including inheriting abilities across rings.

Away from the battlefield, the player returns to the Somniel base, where they build relationships with units, cook food that boosts stats, and train combat skills. The visually brighter, lighter tone of the game, reinforced by pronounced anime-style character designs, divided fans expecting a continuation of Three Houses' darker style, but critics praised an exceptionally polished and deep battle system, which many called the best the series has offered to date. Optional difficulty settings and a mode without permanent death still leave the door open for newcomers.
