Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity is a sequel to the portable spin-off of the Phantasy Star series, again developed by studio Alfa System for the PSP. It builds on Phantasy Star Portable 2, expanding its mission structure with a new story, additional areas to explore, and an extended range of weapons, armor, and Photon Arts techniques with which the player builds their own character according to a chosen race and class.

The gameplay remains faithful to the series' established formula – the player completes individual missions on separate levels, hunts monsters, and gathers materials to upgrade their gear, with most content playable either solo or in co-op with other players over a local or online network. Infinity also adds new bosses, difficulty tiers for the late game, and the ability to import a character from the previous installment, so players could carry an already-developed character and its accumulated gear into the new content without having to start from scratch. An expanded crafting system and additional cosmetic options for customizing the character's appearance were added as well. The game was released only in Japan and was never officially localized into English or any other language. Thanks to the character and equipment import from the previous game, Infinity comes across less as a standalone restart and more as an expanded, polished definitive edition of the entire second generation of portable Phantasy Star games. Like its predecessor, the whole game is built on short, mission-structured segments that can be played in any spare moment, making it a typical example of a genre adapted for a portable console, where the player doesn't need to plan for long play sessions.

Why play it: Infinity is aimed at fans of Sega's portable action RPGs who already know the previous entry and want to keep building their character with new content, tougher challenges, and an expanded range of gear, without losing the progress they've already built up in the series.
