A complete remake of Spyro's first three games with modern graphics and faithful mechanics.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy brings to PlayStation 4 a complete remake of the first three installments of the purple dragon's adventures from the late nineties, this time in a graphically reworked form with modern lighting, detailed textures, and fully animated characters that were missing from the originals due to the hardware of the time. The player flies through colorful worlds, collects gems, frees imprisoned dragons, and breathes fire at enemies, while the core gameplay mechanics - flying, fire attacks, horn charges, and treasure collecting - remain faithful to the originals from the original PlayStation era. The trilogy includes Spyro the Dragon, Ripto's Rage!, and Year of the Dragon, offering dozens of hours of platforming fun split across many thematically distinct levels, each with its own visual style and small gameplay variations.

On PS4 the game runs smoothly at high resolution and benefits from reworked music that keeps the original composers' melodies, just in richer orchestration and with a stronger emphasis on each world's atmosphere. The level design remained essentially unchanged, which was especially appreciated by players who remember the series from childhood, while offering new players an accessible, undemanding platformer with more open levels than many current genre titles. The atmosphere combines fairy-tale stylization with gentle humor and playfulness typical of late-nineties platformers, and the individual areas differ markedly in theme and color palette.

The remake was well received at launch as a fitting tribute to a classic that managed to appeal to both nostalgic fans and a new generation of players unfamiliar with the originals. It also contributed to renewed interest in the Spyro brand and to further projects from Toys for Bob within Activision, including later follow-ups to the related Crash Bandicoot series. Today the game works as a pleasant entry point into the 3D platformer genre for players of all ages, and as proof that a faithfully executed remake can present old values in an attractive modern coat without losing their original charm.

Why play it: For nostalgic fans and newcomers alike looking for a pleasant entry point into the 3D platformer genre - a faithfully executed remake that presents old values in a modern coat without losing their original charm.
