Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Spyro Reignited Trilogy brought together on Xbox One, in a single package, the first three games about the little purple dragon, namely Spyro the Dragon, Ripto's Rage and Year of the Dragon, completely rebuilt from the ground up but with the level layouts and the order of the worlds preserved. The player flies and runs through vast, colorful worlds, collects gems, frees enchanted dragons and uses the little dragon's abilities, such as breathing fire, charging with his horns or a short flight, to solve simple puzzles and fight enemies, while in the third installment additional playable characters with their own abilities join in as well.
The development studio Toys for Bob preserved the original level design and structure of the game, but completely remodeled the environments, characters and effects, so that on Xbox One the game looks like a current title with rich animation and detailed textures, while the humor and relaxed atmosphere of the originals remained untouched, including the characteristic lines of the narrator and supporting characters. Stewart Copeland's music was newly recorded with a live orchestra and gives the individual worlds a distinctive identity, from calm meadows through snowy hills to fiery caves and dark underground passages, while the controls remain pleasantly smooth even after all these years thanks to precise jumping and gliding.
The trilogy was received as one of the most successful remakes of its time, because it didn't settle for merely polished graphics but offered a truly authentic experience from the late nineties in a modern rendition, including small control tweaks that make the camera and aiming easier. For players who remember the series from the PlayStation, it's a pleasant wave of nostalgia, for a new audience it's an accessible and gentle introduction to the 3D platformer genre, which still holds up today despite a simpler design compared to newer games and remains a popular choice for playing together with children as well as for collectors who want to gather all the gems and eggs in every world.
Why play it: For players who remember Spyro from the PlayStation, as well as for newcomers looking for a gentle introduction to 3D platformers, the trilogy is an ideal choice - suitable for playing together with children and collecting gems.
