Asmodeus: Ukradený trůn

Asmodeus: Ukradený trůn is a Czech fantasy game combining elements of action RPG with a story about a usurped throne and the fight against the dark forces behind the seizure of power, with the main hero gradually becoming a key figure in the struggle to restore rightful rule. The player moves through a series of levels full of enemies, collects gear, and gradually develops the character's abilities and equipment, with the combat system and game progression following the then-popular top-down action RPG formula, similar to foreign titles of the same era, and the player gradually discovers stronger weapons and spells needed to progress into the deeper parts of the story.

The graphics match the capabilities of smaller domestic productions of the mid-1990s – the game environments are built from simpler sprites and textures, but the game tries to create a dark fantasy atmosphere fitting the story of a stolen throne and the malevolent forces threatening the entire kingdom. The music and sound effects complement the game's gloomier mood well and underscore the sense of an endangered fantasy world that the player must save with their own hands, while the gradual unveiling of the plot behind the usurped throne adds a narrative dimension to otherwise straightforward gameplay.

Within the domestic production of the time, Asmodeus was among the more technically and content-wise ambitious attempts at a homegrown fantasy RPG, and was seen as one of the proofs that even smaller Czech studios could try their hand at a genre then clearly dominated by major foreign titles. Today the game is viewed mainly as a historical curiosity and evidence of the early ambitions of domestic game development in the fantasy RPG field, even though it could not fully compete technically with foreign competitors that had far larger budgets and more experience with the action RPG genre.
