Instead of one Kirby, you control up to ten of them at once with the stylus - unique in the series.

Kirby Mass Attack abandons the traditional single-hero concept and builds its gameplay around controlling up to ten tiny Kirbys at once using the stylus, completely changing the series' established formula. The player leads them through levels, throws them at enemies, arranges them into formations that let them reach higher platforms or move heavy objects, and solves environmental puzzles that a single Kirby could not manage. Losing individual copies when hit by an enemy functions as a form of health, giving the game a strategic dimension despite its cute appearance and forcing the player to weigh when to risk attacking with all the Kirbys at once and when to retreat instead.

Visually it is one of the technically most polished games of the series on DS - hand-drawn backgrounds and smooth animation of dozens of little characters at once look lively and colorful without the game losing any fluidity. The music is cheerful and rhythmic, complementing the lighthearted atmosphere and changing according to the setting of each world. The entire control scheme is purely touch-based, with no use of buttons, which sets the game apart from most other platformers on the platform and places it closer to the genre of strategy-action games, where the precision of stylus strokes determines success.

Reviews at the time of release praised the game for its originality and inventive handling of the concept of multitude, with many critics ranking it among the best titles of the series on DS for its courage to abandon established conventions. Today Kirby Mass Attack is valued as a bold experiment that showed even an established brand can offer a completely different way of playing without losing its characteristic atmosphere and approachability for a broad audience, and it is often mentioned as one of the best examples of purely touch-based controls on the entire DS console, one that still holds up many years after its release thanks to its inventive combination of action, puzzles, and the pleasant feeling of playing with an entire group of Kirbys.
