The official Bond game after GoldenEye, but technically and content-wise a completely different game from the PS/PC version.

007: The World Is Not Enough arrived on the Nintendo 64 in 2000, three years after the phenomenon that was GoldenEye 007, and tried to build on its legacy as the official first-person shooter based on the film. Studio Eurocom took on development of the N64 version, which was technically and content-wise different from the parallel version being made for PlayStation and PC – rather than one shared codebase, two effectively different games were built on the same license. The player steps into the role of James Bond and works through missions inspired by the film of the same name, from snowy locations to oil rigs.

The game offers the classic mix of action and stealth that made its predecessor famous: silently eliminating guards, hacking locks, collecting gadgets, and gradually unlocking weapons by completing optional mission objectives. Besides the single-player campaign, it also includes the beloved split-screen multiplayer for up to four players, which on the N64 served as the main reason to bring the game out when friends came over – without internet and online leaderboards, it was purely local, single-screen fun.

In the shadow of GoldenEye and Perfect Dark, though, World Is Not Enough never achieved the same reputation, even though it shares much of their DNA – the controls, mission structure, and emphasis on multiplayer battles. Still, for fans of Bond games and N64 shooters, it's a solid addition to the collection, worth trying above all for its multiplayer.

Why play it: It offers the beloved local four-player multiplayer in the spirit of GoldenEye, this time with a license based on a different Bond film.
