A spiritual successor to Mini Metro, this time with roads instead of rails.

Mini Motorways follows up on the success of Mini Metro, carrying the same principle — abstract, elegant, relentlessly logical — from metro diagrams over to a road network. Instead of colored lines, you draw roads with your finger between houses and destinations like shops, offices, or factories, which colorful little cars race along to reach their needs. The longer the game runs, the more densely new buildings and cars keep appearing, traffic jams grow, and the player must continually rework the network, tearing down and rebuilding — exactly as a real growing city does, just on fast-forward.

Visually it's clean, minimalist geometric shapes on a light background that subtly change as time passes, paired with spare but pleasant electronic music underscoring the game's meditative yet tense pace. Controls are purely touch-based — dragging a finger for roads, bridges, and roundabouts, tapping for traffic lights and rights of way — and it works surprisingly intuitively even on a small phone screen, without the need for precise clicks. The game is paid, with no ads and no microtransactions, which places it among the premium exceptions in the genre of "casual" mobile titles; it's also available through the Apple Arcade subscription, which offers it as part of its broader ad-free library.

Mini Motorways was praised by critics and players alike mainly for how elegantly it translates a complex urban-planning problem into a few finger swipes, and the game became one of the strongest proofs that an "infrastructure puzzle" can be just as addictive as a classic action game. Endless maps of individual cities around the world and weekly score leaderboards give players even more reason to come back long after finishing the base scenarios.

Why play it: For anyone who enjoys calm yet mentally demanding strategy games and appreciates an ad-free, microtransaction-free game that fits into even a five-minute break.
