Gacha Life is a character and story creation tool that built a cult following among young players, largely thanks to its endless combinations of hairstyles, outfits, and accessories in an anime style. The player assembles their own characters from dozens of pieces and then places them into a studio, where static comics or short videos are created – this is also the source of the game's enormous popularity on YouTube, where creators publish their own stories complete with voice acting and music. Controls are purely touch-based and simple, dragging elements and selecting from menus, so even a small child can handle the game.

Despite the name, gacha here isn't a classic pull-for-real-money system – items are unlocked with in-game currency that the player earns by playing minigames, so the game functions as free-to-play without aggressive monetization, setting it apart from most gacha titles on the market. This very accommodation of a young audience without spending pressure was key to its success and gave rise to an entire community of amateur creators who tell their own series using the game. Lunime followed up on this success with the sequel Gacha Life 2 and the related titles Gacha Club and Gacha Studio, which expand the range of costumes and backgrounds.

The game has no story or objective of its own – it's a purely creative sandbox where the player supplies the meaning themselves, whether that's drawing a comic, filming a video, or just putting together outfits. The visual style with big eyes and pastel colors clearly targets fans of anime and Japanese pop culture, even though the game itself was made outside Japan.
