A puzzle about a hole that swallows an entire town; short, funny, and original.

Donut County is a short but unforgettable puzzle adventure in which the player controls not a character but a hole in the ground that grows larger with every object it swallows. By dragging a finger across the screen, you move the hole beneath keychains, bushes, cars, and even entire buildings of a Californian suburb, and the more things it swallows, the bigger the hole gets and the even larger chunks of scenery it can devour – the principle recalls the famous Katamari Damacy, just turned inside out and reduced to a single touch gesture. Developer Ben Esposito refined it to complete clarity, so the game controls just as well on a small phone as on a tablet.

The story follows a raccoon named BJ, who inadvertently – actually because of a smartphone app controlling mysterious holes – swallows the entire small town along with all its neighbors, and the game then returns in lighthearted dialogue to how it all actually happened. The humor is gentle, text-based, and American, full of absurd characters and awkward moments, which makes the game feel more like an interactive sketch than a classic platformer. The visual style with flat colors and simple shapes keeps the game low-cost yet visually distinctive.

The campaign is deliberately short, completable in a single afternoon, and this brevity is one of its greatest strengths – the game never starts to bore or repeat the same trick. The reward for finishing is a bonus mode where you can keep swallowing things after the story ends. On mobile it's a paid game with no ads or microtransactions, which matches its tone as a one-off artistic experience rather than an ongoing service.

Why play it: Suitable for anyone who wants to experience an original and funny idea in just a few hours without any unnecessary padding or spending pressure.
