Deus Ex GO
Deus Ex GO is the third installment in Square Enix Montréal's GO series, transplanting the cyberpunk world of Deus Ex into the same turn-based framework as the previous Hitman GO and Lara Croft GO, this time enriched with gameplay elements closer to RPGs. The player moves through a network of connected points, dodges cameras and security drones, tracks their predictable movement, and uses the protagonist's augmentations — invisibility, hacking mechanisms, or moving two tiles at once — to pass through guarded areas without ever being spotted by guards or the security system.
Compared to previous installments, Deus Ex GO adds precisely these augmentations as a key extra mechanic, expanding the turn-based puzzles with a layer of choosing abilities and timing them precisely while moving through space, which requires planning one step further than in its predecessors. The visual style stays true to the series' diorama aesthetic, this time in cool, metallic tones matching Deus Ex's cyberpunk look, with holograms and technological motifs instead of ancient temples or quiet Victorian-era mansions.
As the final installment of the GO series, Deus Ex GO showed how far the turn-based system can be pushed by adding gameplay mechanics from the RPG genre, though many players agreed the first two installments remain more elegant in their simplicity and readability without extra layers. Controls are touch-based, and the game is a one-time purchase with no ads and no additional payments, just like both previous installments in the GO series.
Why play it: For fans of the GO series and Deus Ex alike, who will appreciate turn-based puzzling enriched with augmentations and a cyberpunk atmosphere.
