A mobile answer to Counter-Strike; fast rounds, tactical shooting without frills.

Critical Ops took the legendary Counter-Strike as its model and carried its skeleton – two teams, a bomb, no respawns mid-round – onto the touchscreen so faithfully that it quickly became the reference title for tactical mobile shooters. Players choose between terrorists and a counter-terrorist unit, buy gear at the start of a round, and must survive or complete the objective, with death meaning a wait for the next round. Controls are handled by a virtual joystick for movement and gestures for aiming and shooting, supplemented by aim assist that keeps the game playable on a small display even without a physical controller. Button layout can also be customized to one's own comfort, which is far from a given in rival titles.

Studio Critical Force released the game in 2015 and bet from the start that mobile players wanted a genuinely tactical game even on the phone, not just a simplified shooter with auto-aim on everything around them. Maps draw on classic shooter arena archetypes, round pace is fast and legible, and the game has continued developing over the long term by adding new weapons, maps, and cosmetic skins sold as microtransactions without affecting weapon performance.

The revenue model is free-to-play with optional cosmetic purchases, so the entry barrier is zero and competition stays balanced regardless of how much anyone spends. It's exactly this combination of free entry, honest tactics, and a decent technical side that made Critical Ops one of the longest-lived esports mobile shooters.

Why play it: for players who want a genuine tactical shooter in the Counter-Strike style on their phone without paying for an advantage, and don't mind a longer learning curve for touch controls.
