Moon Chronicles

FPS (střílečka z pohledu první osoby) 2014 Renegade Kid ⏱ Short · up to ~3 h

An episodic sci-fi shooter from Renegade Kid; an expanded remake of Moon from the Nintendo DS.

Moon Chronicles is an episodic first-person sci-fi shooter from studio Renegade Kid, reworking and both graphically and content-wise expanding their earlier title Moon for the Nintendo DS. The player heads to a lunar base where, after a mysterious attack, they must face an alien threat, with gameplay combining exploration of enclosed corridors, solving simple puzzles, and firefights with increasingly dangerous enemies who often attack from around a corner in the base's dark passages. The game was released gradually episode by episode, letting players pay only for the content they actually wanted to play, while also giving Renegade Kid room to keep expanding, tuning, and adjusting the content based on feedback from previously released episodes.

Technically, the game draws on Renegade Kid's experience making FPS games on Nintendo handhelds, with smooth controls adapted for the 3DS and atmospheric lighting that heightens the claustrophobic feel of the lunar base's narrow, dark corridors. The sound design and dark, industrial music contribute to a tense, horror-tinged atmosphere, following in the tradition of sci-fi horror set in isolated space facilities, where the player never feels entirely safe.

Moon Chronicles was praised above all for bringing a solid FPS experience to a platform where the genre was generally rare and technically demanding to pull off, and the episodic release model was, at the time, an unusual experiment on the eShop that few other studios imitated. Today the title is remembered as one of the few proper FPS entries on 3DS and proof that even a smaller studio can create an atmospheric, gameplay-solid shooter on a handheld that holds up even without the marketing muscle of major publishers behind traditional big-budget shooters.
