Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy

Letecká akční střílečka 2012 Atypical Games ⏱ Medium · ~3–10 h

An accessible arcade flight shooter; short missions with no need for experience flying planes.

Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy is an arcade flight shooter set during a fictional global conflict, in which the player, as a fighter pilot, flies through dozens of missions over varied environments ranging from deserts and mountains to large cities. Gameplay is built on fast aerial dogfights, strafing ground targets, and gradually unlocking and upgrading aircraft, with controls simplified to be accessible even to players with no experience of flight games, so the game doesn't require understanding complex flight maneuvers. The campaign is split into short missions that can be played individually or in quick succession.

On 3DS the game uses stereoscopic 3D to heighten the sense of height and speed, and also offers online multiplayer where players can face off in aerial combat across several match types, from free-for-alls to team missions. Visually it is a colorful, action-oriented game with no ambitions toward realism, accompanied by dynamic music that underscores the pace of combat and keeps even simpler missions tense. Compared to the mobile versions of the series that Sky Gamblers originates from, the 3DS edition offers physical buttons and a stick, making for more precise aiming than touch controls on phones, giving players noticeably better control over their aircraft even during fast maneuvers.

Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy was never among the 3DS's flagship titles, but among players looking for accessible aerial action on a handheld it found its place thanks to straightforward fun and a solid amount of content to unlock. Today it is remembered more as a decent, undemanding entry in the genre than as a key title of the platform, but for fans of arcade dogfights it still offers fun that can be played in shorter sessions, without the player having to follow a sprawling story or learn complicated controls.
