The Impossible Quiz

Puzzle 2007 Splapp-me-do ⏱ Short · up to ~3 h 🧩 Puzzle

A quiz full of absurd tricks, where logic fails and only memory and trial and error work.

The Impossible Quiz is a series of questions where ordinary logic usually leads to the wrong answer, and the only reliable tools are memory, trial and error, and a willingness to let the game lead you by the nose. Control is simple mouse clicking on one of the offered options, but the difficulty lies neither in reflexes nor skill - it lies in the fact that the questions are deliberately phrased as wordplay, visual tricks, or references to other questions within the quiz itself, so the player must approach each one suspecting that the seemingly obvious answer is a trap, and often only gets further by remembering what failed on a previous attempt.

The 2007 game was created by Splapp-me-do and became one of the most striking examples of the absurd humor of the Newgrounds scene at the time: it combines black humor, breaking the fourth wall, and deliberate spite aimed directly at player expectations, which was a refreshing and memorable approach at a time when most quizzes took themselves seriously. Its success brought several sequels and spin-offs that sharpened the principle even further, but it was the first installment that set the tone for the whole series - the joy of the game poking fun at the very concept of a quiz.

Today, The Impossible Quiz is mainly a nostalgic relic of the Flash era; running it requires an archival player, since browsers abandoned native Flash technology long ago.

Why play it: For players with a sense of absurd humor who want to enjoy a quiz built to repeatedly catch them out, rather than test their general knowledge.
