Sequel to the dreamlike platformer; you catch enemies in an air sac for a double jump.

Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil is the sequel to the original PS1 platformer and is one of the titles that managed to combine clear 2.5D gameplay with a story-sensitive, fairy-tale-like narrative on the PlayStation 2. The player once again guides the cat-like creature Klonoa through dreamlike levels, moving along a fixed axis and jumping between foreground and background, with the core tool remaining the ability to catch enemies in an air sac and use them as a double jump or a thrown projectile against other enemies and obstacles.

Compared to the first entry, the sequel brought a more pronounced visual style with the painted, colorful world of Lunatea divided into four distinct lands, each with its own atmosphere, color palette, and musical character. The level design relies on precise jump timing and enemy-catching, with difficulty gradually rising up to inventively designed puzzle sections and boss fights that often require combining several learned abilities at once. The story, told with an emphasis on emotion, attachment, and loss, was unusually sensitive for the platforming genre at the time of release, and the game earned a loyal, devoted fanbase around the world because of it.

Commercially, Klonoa 2 didn't break through in the West as much as its quality deserved, but over time it earned a reputation as one of the most highly rated and most overlooked gems of the PS2 generation. Today it's praised especially for its sensitive direction, clean and precise controls, and music that accompanies each world with its own memorable theme matching its atmosphere. The controls remain fairly simple throughout — the game deliberately avoids complex button combinations and instead relies on precise timing and a feel for platforming rhythm, making it an accessible yet challenging title for patient players. For fans of classic 2.5D platformers, it's still one of the most frequently recommended titles from the entire PlayStation 2 library, though its charm often remains hidden from the wider public outside the circle of devoted genre fans.

Why play: For patient fans of classic 2.5D platformers who will appreciate the precise controls, sensitive direction, and unforgettable music accompanying every world of Lunatea's Veil.
