Shadowgun's successor turned into a looter shooter with RPG elements and online multiplayer.

Shadowgun Legends turned Madfinger Games' original linear shooter into a sprawling online looter shooter with RPG elements, where the player builds and upgrades their mercenary's gear, completes faction missions, and faces other players in duels and co-op missions. Compared to the lean, purely single-player Shadowgun, this is a far more ambitious project with its own hub, dialogue, and long-term character progression, resembling a mobile take on major online shooters rather than a short action showcase.

Controls remain built around virtual joysticks and touch buttons for shooting, aiming, and abilities, and thanks to years of development since the first Shadowgun, they're noticeably more precise and better suited to longer play sessions. Visually, the game again relies on a strong technical foundation and cinematic camera work, though no longer as a pioneer but rather as an established standard of mobile action titles.

Shadowgun Legends is a free-to-play game built on the common model of mobile looter shooters – basic play is free, but progression as well as cosmetic and gear items can be sped up by buying in-game currency, so a player who wants to avoid grinding will sooner or later run into a payment offer. It's not gacha in the strict sense, but microtransactions are a built-in part of progression here, not an optional add-on, and over time the need to wait for energy or gear to refresh also creeps into play, as is typical for free-to-play titles.

Why play it: Suited to looter shooter fans willing to tolerate free-to-play pacing and microtransactions in exchange for a far more substantial game than the original Shadowgun.
