Dead Trigger 2
Dead Trigger 2 followed up on the successful first game a year later, turning it into a more open and content-rich experience. Madfinger Games expanded the world with more regions, missions, and weapon types, added more elaborate story framing, and instead of a handful of isolated arenas, the player now progressed through a more expansive campaign against the zombie outbreak. Controls stayed faithful to the original – touch aiming and shooting remain at the center of the action – but the level design offered more variety in both environments and individual mission objectives.
A more significant change was the deepening of the free-to-play model. While the first game was free to download with only supplementary gold purchases, the sequel built its monetization much more systematically: more currencies, more bundles, more pressure to reach for your wallet if you wanted to progress without lengthy farming. For many players this was already a noticeably more aggressive approach than its predecessor, even though the game itself – the graphics, the atmosphere of the infested world, the pacing of the firefights – remained top-tier for its time and technically ranked among the best mobile action had to offer at that moment.
Dead Trigger 2 thus also showed the flip side of the first game's success: the bigger the player base grew, the harder the studio tried to monetize their attention. Even so, it remained a playable and visually impressive representative of mobile zombie action from its era, with enough content to still retain part of its original player base among genre fans today.
Why play it: For fans of the first game who want more content and more varied settings, but should expect a noticeably more intrusive freemium economy than in the original.
