Last War: Survival builds on a similar foundation to other mobile survival strategy games – after a zombie apocalypse, the player builds a base, recruits heroes with unique abilities, and leads alliances into battles over resources, territory, and strategically advantageous map positions. The gameplay combines resource management, upgrade research, and tactical unit deployment on the map, with controls remaining a simple touch menu without particular demands on reflexes or fast real-time decisions. What sets it apart is mainly its massive presence in mobile advertising, appearing in an incredible number of video spots with live-action scenes and famous faces that have little to do with the actual gameplay.

FirstFun released the game in 2023, and it quickly became one of the highest-grossing titles in the genre, largely thanks to an advertising budget that far exceeds typical mobile strategy games and flooded video ad space across apps. Monetization relies on speed-ups, a battle pass, and event bundles – the genre's standard model, just backed by substantially more aggressive new-player acquisition than the rest of the genre's competition.
