WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!
Five seconds. That's all you get to figure out what the game wants from you and manage to do it — dodge, catch, press, open. And then the next one immediately. And another, faster. Welcome to WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, a game that literally invented a new genre.
The concept is radically simple and brilliant at the same time: hundreds of microgames, each lasting three to five seconds, come at you one after another in an ever-accelerating stream. You get no instructions — just a single word of a hint and a moment to figure out what's being asked of you. Reflexes, intuition and quick thinking are everything.
The beauty lies in that endless surprise. One moment you're dodging an obstacle, the next you're catching a falling object, picking the nose of a drawn character or completing an absurd task with no obvious logic. Bizarre humor and aesthetics — crude drawings, photographs, primitive 3D, all thrown together — turn every attempt into a little show.
The game was born as an experiment by the Wario Land team and carries Wario's name precisely for that mischievous, unpredictable nature. An entirely new gaming language was born here: speed, chaos and the pure joy of never knowing what's coming. It's the ideal title for short bursts as well as for group play, where the others have fun watching your confusion.
Mega Microgame$! didn't just found a series that continues to this day — it defined a whole category of games. And yet it retains its freshness even today, because its essence is timeless: pure, distilled fun in its most unadulterated form.
Why play: The founder of the microgame genre — hundreds of five-second bits of madness in an accelerating stream, full of bizarre humor and pure joy.
