Samorost – obaly dílů série

Amanita Design created Samorost, and its first installment launched in 2003 as a free Flash game that caught attention with its hand-drawn, dreamlike world and point-and-click puzzles without text or violence. A small gnome traveling between planets and organic landscapes became the calling card of the studio and of the whole genre of poetic adventures that lean on atmosphere and intuitive puzzle-solving instead of dialogue and written text.

The sequel, Samorost 2, expanded the playtime and the story around the gnome's kidnapped dog and added more elaborate and varied environments, while the series stayed true to wordless storytelling and hand-painted visuals. Years later came Samorost 3, this time a full paid release for PC and mobile devices, with a larger world, original music, and more complex puzzles built around traveling between plant-covered planets using a magic flute. Thanks to that scope, many players and critics consider it the series' high point.

Samorost as a whole helped define the genre of art-house point-and-click adventures and showed that a game can work purely on visual and audio atmosphere without a single line of text. Its success opened the door for further Amanita Design projects such as Machinarium and Botanicula, and the series remains an example of how a small independent studio turned a modest Flash game into an internationally respected brand. Even though more than a decade sometimes passed between installments, the series kept the same poetic tone and visual identity throughout, which is why all four entries remain instantly recognizable as part of one whole.
