Lego Racers – obaly dílů série

Lego Racers came out in 1999 from High Voltage Software under the Lego Media label, bringing arcade-style kart racing built around LEGO bricks to PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo 64. Players took on the role of a character named Pepper Roni and could literally build their own vehicle piece by piece, with part choices affecting the balance between speed and handling - the main hook that set the game apart from other racers of its kind. That was matched by a lighthearted, humorous tone, collectible power-ups referencing the world of LEGO sets, and split-screen multiplayer racing for a group of friends sharing one console.

Two years later came the sequel Lego Racers 2, which offered a more developed single-player story mode across several themed worlds, expanded the roster of characters and tracks, and further developed the vehicle-building concept. The idea also reached Game Boy Advance owners, with the series adapted for the handheld's capabilities. In a short span, three distinct games emerged that, alongside other licensed LEGO titles of the era such as Lego Island, showed how LEGO was systematically pushing into video games beyond its bricks in the late 1990s. After 2001, though, LEGO's racing games shifted toward a different sub-brand, Drome Racers, and never returned to the Lego Racers name - yet thanks to its family-friendly approach and its simple but catchy build-your-own-car hook, it kept a lasting, fondly remembered place in the memories of turn-of-the-millennium racing games.
