A stealthy sequel to the story of siblings Amicia and Hugo, with greater freedom in combat.

A Plague Tale: Requiem continues the story of siblings Amicia and Hugo, who flee a France ravaged by war and plague, heading south in search of a cure for the boy's curse. The core of the gameplay is stealth: the player skirts patrols, draws attention away, douses and lights fires, and mixes projectiles of various effects into the sling. Compared to the previous entry, there's more freedom — a crossbow, the option of open confrontation, and environments that offer more than one path. The strongest mechanic remains light: rats are afraid of fire, so every torch, bonfire, and spark serves as both weapon and compass, and the scenes where a black tide floods through the streets rank among the most tense moments of their generation.

The game released only for the new console generation, and on Xbox Series X|S that shows. The rat-swarm simulation runs at a scale older hardware couldn't handle, and combined with the very detailed environments of southern France and the Mediterranean, it becomes one of the visually strongest titles of its year. The game was initially locked to thirty frames per second, but a later update added a performance mode favoring smoothness. Thanks to the SSD, loading is short, which, in a game with frequent section retries, contributes to a smoother overall experience. The orchestral score leans on strings and female vocals, carrying the mood from calm moments on the beach all the way to a tragic climax.

Critics received the game very well, especially for its storytelling and the relationship between the two siblings, which gradually shifts over the course of the game. Criticism was aimed at its linearity and at the fact that the stealth sometimes punishes experimentation. The title's influence lies mainly in demonstrating room for mid-sized European productions that don't compete on scale but on direction and atmosphere. Today, Requiem feels like a tight, emotionally demanding experience: it doesn't stretch into hundreds of hours, but players remember its ending long after finishing it. It's also one of the few games unafraid to lead the player toward uncomfortable conclusions instead of offering easy absolution.
