B.J. Blazkowicz against occult Nazis; the Shadow dimension gives the action a supernatural twist.

Wolfenstein from 2009 returns players to the role of agent B. J. Blazkowicz fighting against a Nazi occult program, this time in the fictional city of Isenstadt, where German scientists are attempting to harness a paranormal energy called Vril. The game continues the classic series' combination of straightforward action shooting with supernatural elements — Blazkowicz gains the ability to shift into a shadow dimension that lets him slow down time, pass through invisible walls, heal faster, or see hidden enemies and objects, so the game blends classic gunplay with a supernatural twist and a more open take on the city between missions.

The PlayStation 3 version launched simultaneously with Xbox 360 and PC in August 2009 and offered exactly the same campaign, the same shadow dimension, and the same weapons and their upgrades as on the other platforms — no version received exclusive content. The controls were adapted to the DualShock 3 with analog sticks instead of mouse and keyboard, a standard compromise for console versions of first-person shooters at the time, and aiming also included mild magnetic target snapping to make aiming with a gamepad easier.

Technically, the game ran on PS3 at the same resolution and with similar frame rate stability as on Xbox 360, without significant differences that reviewers at the time would highlight — both console versions were perceived as essentially equal. The main difference compared to the PC version thus lay not in the campaign content but purely in the controls and in the lack of the ability to set custom key bindings or play at a higher resolution, which PC players with more powerful hardware were used to. The game also included online multiplayer, which on PS3 ran over the PlayStation Network with the same maps and game modes as on Xbox 360 via Xbox Live, so no content difference could be found between the consoles in this part of the game either.

Why play it: Console players get an equally stable and content-complete version on PS3 as on Xbox 360, including online multiplayer with the same maps and modes.
