Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5

sportovní arkáda (skateboarding) 2015 Fun Labs Tony Hawk ⏱ Short · up to ~3 h

The PS3 version arrived two months later than on PS4 and Xbox One and was adapted by a different studio.

While the Pro Skater 5 version for PS4 and Xbox One launched right at the end of September 2015, PlayStation 3 owners had to wait until mid-December of the same year, and even then in a form adapted for that console generation by Fun Labs, not the original developer Robomodo. Both the delay and the different team suggested that this wasn't simply the same game recompiled for older hardware, and reviews and contemporary reports on the port's limitations later confirmed that.

The most notable difference is the removal of full online multiplayer - the PS3 edition offers no online races and keeps only the ability to share created parks via Create-A-Park with other players among its online features. The levels overall have less content than on PS4, and the interface is simplified: the number of stars earned in each level is shown only for the currently selected level, whereas the new-generation version shows it for all levels at once directly in the overview. This is clearly a stripped-down version tailored to fading hardware.

The three-month gap between the release of both versions and the switch to a different development studio suggest that Activision didn't want to leave the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation out entirely, but also didn't invest the same resources into it as into the flagship PS4 and Xbox One edition. The result is a port that offers the same core game - classic run levels and collecting the letters S-K-A-T-E - but without the online dimension and with a visibly smaller range of supporting features. On top of that, the belated port arrived without the media attention that the September premiere on PS4 and Xbox One received, and for many players it remained more of an overlooked add-on than an equal version of the full game.

Why play it: The PS3 version only makes sense to pick when no other platform is available - otherwise, it's a record of what a later port to a dying console generation looked like, without online multiplayer and with a limited interface compared to Robomodo's full PS4 edition.
