LittleBigPlanet 3

LittleBigPlanet 3 was released in 2014, with development taken over by the British studio Sumo Digital instead of founding studio Media Molecule, which expanded the series with three new playable characters alongside the iconic Sackboy – Oddsock, Toggle, and Swoop. Each of them has a unique ability, whether it's high jumping, switching size between a small and large form, or flying, which opens up entirely new possibilities for level and puzzle design built around cooperation between all four characters across individual sections.

The campaign takes players through four themed worlds full of platforming action, physics puzzles, and cooperation for up to four players at once, both on a single screen and online, with each world building on a different one of the characters' new abilities. However, the true core of the series remains the Create tool, which in LittleBigPlanet 3 received even more tools for building custom levels, logic circuits, mini-games, and even entirely new game genres, bringing the game closer to a universal creation tool than a classic platformer and expanding on what the previous two entries, released directly by Media Molecule, offered.

Community level sharing and the huge amount of user-generated content make the game a practically endless source of fun long after completing the story campaign, with the quality and inventiveness of fan creations often surpassing even the official content from the developers. The transition from Media Molecule to Sumo Digital happened without any significant drop in production quality, although series fans occasionally missed the distinctive touch and atmosphere of the founding studio, which gave the series its characteristic feel in the previous two entries.
