A comedic classic of the genre; three friends get stuck each in a different era after a failed attempt at time travel.

Day of the Tentacle Remastered is a meticulous restoration of a comedic adventure that has ranked among the pinnacles of the genre since its original release. A trio of very different friends try to stop a mutated tentacle from taking over the world, but their attempt to travel back in time fails, and each of them ends up in a different era. One gets stuck in the colonial past, another in a haunted present, and the third in a future ruled by tentacles. The player switches freely between them, solving puzzles that interlock across the centuries.

It's precisely this interlocking that makes the game an unmatched logic puzzle to this day. An item sent into the past changes history so that something different appears in the future, and many puzzles require thinking several steps ahead about the consequences. Yet it's a thoroughly cheerful game, full of absurd ideas, caricatures, and one-liners, so even a tricky solution is rewarded with a funny scene. The remaster added redrawn high-resolution graphics, reworked music, developer commentary, and the option to switch to the original pixel-art version at any time. The controls remain pleasantly simple: all interaction happens through a short verb menu and an inventory shared among all three heroes, so you can focus on thinking rather than hunting for hotspots. The package also includes a complete copy of an older game that can be run from a computer in one of the rooms.

On PlayStation Vita the game controls very comfortably, since the touchscreen replaces the mouse practically without any loss, and the drawn style looks great on the compact display. The music, in the spirit of old cartoon slapstick, combined with full voice acting, creates the impression of an interactive Saturday-morning cartoon. The original release became the benchmark for what a comedic adventure should look like, and its influence can be seen in dozens of later games. The remaster secured it a place on modern platforms, and it particularly shines on the handheld console, since it's short, playful, and can be comfortably finished over a few evenings.
