The second part of the trilogy based on the Das Schwarze Auge rules; an expedition across Aventuria.

Realms of Arkania: Star Trail is the second installment of the trilogy by the German studio Attic Entertainment, based on the rules of the tabletop game Das Schwarze Auge. The player leads a group of adventurers who set out across the vast continent of Aventuria on the trail of a mysterious threat, with the journey leading through mountains, forests, and underground passages full of dangers.

The game builds on Blade of Destiny with an elaborate character creation system featuring dozens of attributes and skills, tactical turn-based combat, and a strong emphasis on expedition logistics — the player must manage food supplies, heal wounds, and deal with party fatigue during the long journey. This simulation-heavy approach made Star Trail one of the most demanding and deepest RPGs of its time, rewarding careful planning. The graphics on DOS were solid, if no longer cutting-edge even at release, but the game was carried above all by the depth of its systems and its faithfulness to the Das Schwarze Auge source material.

Star Trail is still valued by European RPG fans today for its uncompromising depth and authentic translation of the Das Schwarze Auge rules into computer form. For today's player it is a very demanding, slow title with no forgiveness for mistakes, yet it offers a unique sense of a genuine expedition through an inhospitable landscape that more modern RPGs often lack. The Das Schwarze Auge rule system on which the game is built differs significantly from American systems like Dungeons & Dragons in its emphasis on more realistic injuries, illnesses, and fatigue, which made Star Trail a simulation with its own distinctive rules rather than a derivative of established genre templates. This very fidelity to the tabletop source is the reason the series still enjoys respect today, especially in German-speaking countries, where the DSA rules originate and where they have a long tradition. For players accustomed to American RPG templates, the sheer number of numerical attributes and modifiers can be confusing at first, but once they grasp the system's basic logic, they discover an unusually elaborate simulation of an adventuring expedition, where a failure in supply management can threaten the party just as much as direct combat with an enemy.
