A text-rich space RPG from a small team; freedom of choice recalls tabletop games.

Star Traders: Frontiers is a space RPG built on text, tables, and decisions rather than action graphics – the player commands their own ship, hires a crew, and chooses the role of smuggler, mercenary, trader, or agent of one of the factions fighting for dominance in the sector. Each mission is a sequence of text events with several solution options that affect faction reputation, crew relationships, and the economy of one's own fleet, making the game resemble a digitized tabletop game rather than a typical mobile title.

It was created by the independent studio Trese Brothers, which has long specialized in deep, systemically rich RPGs with minimal graphical polish, and Star Traders: Frontiers is their most ambitious project – it offers dozens of hours of content, a procedurally generated universe, and notable replayability thanks to different factions and playstyles. The paid model, with no ads and no microtransactions, allows the game to be bought once and grant access to all content without further blackmail by timers.

On touch controls it works surprisingly well precisely because it builds on menus and text rather than precise gestures – browsing menus, tactical turn-based ship combat, and crew management are all handled by tapping without frustration. The smaller studio thereby earned a loyal community of players who appreciated the depth without the grind typical of free-to-play competition, and the game has also received expansions adding new factions and content.

Why play: Suits fans of text and systemic RPGs looking for tabletop-game depth on mobile, who don't mind lesser graphics in exchange for an honest one-time purchase.
