Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars – Reforged

Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars – Reforged is a reworking of the game that Revolution Software released back in the nineties and which is rightly considered one of the best point-and-click adventures in the history of the genre. The Reforged version brings completely redone graphics, improved character animation and adjusted controls adapted to modern devices, including mobile phones and tablets, to which the series is now largely moving.

The story follows the American tourist George Stobbart, who in Paris accidentally becomes entangled in a murder investigation connected to the secret of the Templar order reaching back to the Middle Ages, and together with the journalist Nico Collard he gradually uncovers a conspiracy spanning several European cities. The gameplay remains true to the original: the player explores the environment, collects and combines items and solves logic puzzles tied to cleverly written dialogue full of the typically British humor that made the series famous.

The remake was received by critics as a respectful and technically accomplished tribute to a classic, which preserves everything that made the original game so beloved while removing outdated control elements that could discourage new players. For longtime fans it is a pleasant opportunity to return to the story that stood at the beginning of the whole series, while a new generation of players can, thanks to the Reforged version, discover one of the founding titles of the adventure genre without having to fight the limited controls of its era.
