Medal of Honor: Airborne

FPS 2007 EA Los Angeles Medal of Honor ⏱ Medium · ~3–10 h

Every mission begins with a parachute jump, letting you choose your own landing spot and approach.

Medal of Honor: Airborne brought a fresh, refreshing element to a long-stagnant series - the player began every mission with a parachute jump over the battlefield and could choose their own landing spot, which determined the entire subsequent approach, available weapons, and order of objectives. The game launched simultaneously on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in the fall of 2007, so the PS3 version didn't arrive delayed as with many other multiplatform titles of the time, where console releases caught up with the PC version only months later.

On PS3, the game ran with the same campaign scope as on other platforms - the same missions, weapons, and the system of gradually upgrading weapons based on how the player used a given weapon in combat. Technically, the PS3 release barely differed from the Xbox 360 version; both ran on Unreal Engine 3 with comparable resolution and frame rate, which was the common standard in 2007 for near-parallel development on both consoles for titles released alongside a PC version. Controls used the standard DualShock 3 button layout without any special additional tweaks, and just like on Xbox 360, it supported a system of gradually unlocking upgrades for individual weapons based on play style.

The only noticeably more significant difference lay in online multiplayer - it ran over the PlayStation Network instead of Xbox Live, meaning a completely separate player community from the Xbox version and a different ranking and unlockable equipment system for online matches. The PS3 release also didn't yet have official trophies available in 2007; Sony only introduced those into the system the following year via a firmware update. In terms of content and quality, it was practically an identical experience across both consoles, and the choice of platform back then mainly depended on which console the player already owned and where their friends were for online play, rather than on any substantive differences between the game's versions.

Why play it: In terms of content and quality, it's an almost identical experience to Xbox 360, just with multiplayer via PlayStation Network - the choice of platform back then depended mainly on where the player's friends were.
