Tropico 6
Tropico 6 expanded the long-running series about a Caribbean island ruler with a major new feature: for the first time, the player manages an archipelago of multiple islands at once, between which bridges and harbors need to be built and industry, agriculture, and tourism divided. Development, following the previous entries by Haemimont Games, was taken over by German studio Limbic Entertainment, which kept the concept's satirical tone and political mechanics, such as balancing relations with the great powers or fulfilling the demands of resident factions, and added new elements, among others the ability to steal famous landmarks from abroad and put them on display on your own island.
The economic and building system was expanded with a more elaborate transport infrastructure and more detailed management of individual eras, from colonialism through the world wars and the Cold War to the modern day, with each era bringing its own technologies and political pressures. The graphics underwent a noticeable visual step up compared to previous entries, toward more detailed building and character models.
Partly thanks to this, the game appealed both to longtime fans of the series and to new players encountering the concept of a satirical city-building strategy game for the first time, and it became one of the series' most commercially successful entries. The new multi-island system also extends the late game, since the player must plan logistics between the individual parts of the archipelago instead of simply expanding a single territory.
Why play it: For players who know the previous Tropico games and want to try managing several islands at once along with the new mechanics, but newcomers looking for a light-hearted city-building strategy game with a strong sense of humor will enjoy it too.
