Little Nightmares III
Little Nightmares III returns to the world of giant, unsettling spaces and tiny, weaponless heroes who survive through fleeing, hiding, and quick thinking. After two entries by Tarsier Studios, the series has this time been taken over by Supermassive Games, known mainly for horror adventures like Until Dawn and the Dark Pictures Anthology series - a notable change for the brand, though the game keeps and builds on the existing atmosphere and visual style. The story follows two characters named Low and Alone as they try to escape a place called the Spiral, full of the twisted adult figures the series is known for. As in previous entries, the game builds on the contrast between a small, defenseless character and disproportionately large, menacing surroundings that turn ordinary objects and rooms into deadly obstacles.
The major new feature is that the player now goes through the game either alone with an AI controlling the second character, or in co-op with a second player, either locally or online - a major shift compared to the purely solo predecessors in how the game is played and how its puzzles are solved. Many sections are designed to require both characters to cooperate at the same time, for example when one of them has to hold a mechanism while the other walks past, changing the pace and feel of exploration compared to the first two entries. Development was accompanied by repeated delays and a change of lead studio, so the final PC version didn't arrive until 2025, considerably later than originally planned, meaning many players waited noticeably longer for the sequel than was usual for the previous entries.
Why play it: Little Nightmares III is the best choice for series fans who want to experience the same unpleasantly fascinating world as before, but this time with the option to go through it as a duo and solve puzzles together instead of fleeing alone.
