A new generation of the famous series; a modern engine and dynamic weather over Stalingrad.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad launched a new generation of the famous series and became the foundation of a modern, still-expanding simulation ecosystem set amid the fighting for Stalingrad on the Eastern Front. The game runs on a reworked engine that significantly improved terrain detail, aircraft models, and damage simulation compared to the older games, and it also features dynamically changing weather and seasons that affect visibility. It offers both Soviet and German aircraft typical of the Battle of Stalingrad and focuses on a highly refined, modern flight model that tries to capture the aerodynamic behavior of individual types as accurately as possible.

Since its release, the game has become a living platform onto which further campaigns set in other periods and fronts of World War II have gradually been added, sold as standalone expansions sharing the same engine and a connected Eastern Front game map. The multiplayer component offers large-scale online warfare with a sophisticated dynamic campaign system that responds to the outcomes of battles fought by individual player communities, thereby changing the course of the virtual war. Visually and audibly it ranks among the most sophisticated World War II simulators, with a very detailed cockpit environment, convincing weather and lighting modeling, and carefully recorded engine sounds for each type of aircraft.

Battle of Stalingrad is now generally regarded as one of the technically most advanced flight simulators devoted to World War II and is often recommended as the entry point into the whole series for new players, since it contains the most developed tutorial and assistance tools. Its long lifespan and constant expansion with new campaigns and aircraft show just how well its underlying technological and gameplay framework was designed. Even years later, it remains a reference title of the historical flight simulator genre and an inspiration for other simulation projects focused on flight-model authenticity.

Why play it: For both new and experienced flight simulator players, thanks to the most developed tutorial and assistance tools in the IL-2 Sturmovik series and still-reference-level technical execution.
