Moon is a sci-fi FPS from Renegade Kid, which used the experience gained while developing the Dementium series to create a space horror-tinged adventure on the Moon. The player finds themselves on an abandoned lunar base under attack by an alien threat and must fight through dark corridors and surface sections, combining weapon fire with exploration and the search for a way to uncover the cause of the disaster that struck the base.
The game builds on control schemes similar to Dementium — a combination of buttons for movement and the stylus for aiming — and technically follows on from the improved engine of Dementium II, offering smoother movement and more detailed environments than Renegade Kid's earlier DS titles. The atmosphere is enhanced by oppressive lighting, the isolated locations of the space base, and sound design that keeps the player in constant tension about what is hiding around the next corner of the dark corridor.
Moon was received as a solid, technically accomplished addition to Renegade Kid's FPS portfolio on Nintendo DS, showing the studio's ability to bring atmospheric horror and sci-fi elements into a new setting beyond the hospital backdrop of Dementium, even though many reviewers noted a thematic similarity to the studio's previous games. For fans of handheld first-person shooters, Moon remains an interesting choice demonstrating how far the FPS genre could be pushed on the DS's limited hardware thanks to an experienced, specialized development team that established itself as one of the few truly specialized studios on the entire platform. Together with the Dementium duology, Moon forms an unofficial trilogy of atmospheric shooters from Renegade Kid, which today ranks among the most interesting things the FPS genre offered on Nintendo DS.
