An endless runner with an ever-growing horde of zombies that sweeps away everything in its path.

Zombie Tsunami is an endless runner in which the player swipes a finger up and down to make a horde of zombies jump over obstacles, drop into underground tunnels, or collect bonuses, while the horde itself grows with every person it absorbs and rolls through the city like a literal human — or rather undead — tsunami. The bigger the horde, the more destruction it can wreak on buildings and vehicles, giving the game a satisfying sense of growing power.

The game was released in 2013 by the French studio Mobigame, previously known for the title Edge, and Zombie Tsunami quickly became one of the most successful representatives of the endless runner genre on mobile alongside Temple Run and Subway Surfers. Controls using one or two finger swipes are maximally accessible, yet the game gradually adds new environments, special zombie abilities, and coin collecting to unlock them, so a short round can keep you entertained for long minutes. The game is free to download and is monetized through ads along with virtual currency purchases, a model that lets players get by without paying but forces them to accept interruptions.

Colorful, cartoonish graphics and black humor — the game doesn't take the zombie apocalypse theme seriously at all and plays it purely for laughs — give the title a lighthearted atmosphere free of any horror anxiety. Gradually unlocking new zombies with their own abilities also gives the player motivation to keep coming back even after clearing the basic levels.

Why play it: Anyone looking for an undemanding, humorously toned take on the endless runner genre for quick breaks between other activities will find Zombie Tsunami a reliable choice, albeit with ads as the price for being free.
