Marvel's Iron Man VR
Marvel's Iron Man VR gives the player the feeling of truly becoming Tony Stark in his armor, because the game's flight and combat system is designed precisely around the movement of the Move controllers, which the player holds in outstretched arms like repulsors. Tilting and rotating the hands controls flight speed and direction, pulling the trigger fires energy blasts, and combining both movements allows for acrobatic maneuvers while evading enemy missiles and drones. This control scheme, which initially requires some getting used to, becomes remarkably convincing once mastered and is often cited as one of the best flight systems in VR altogether.
The story follows the film mythology of Iron Man but is told through its own original plot set after the events in which Tony Stark left the weapons industry, pitting him against a new threat tied to his own past. Missions take place in various environments, from open ocean areas to dense urban canyons, alternating between fast action battles and slower passages of exploration and gathering upgrades for the armor. The visual presentation is top-notch on PSVR, with generous vistas and explosive effects that feel very cinematic during intense battles against multiple opponents.
The game was received at launch as one of the best exclusive titles of PSVR's late lifecycle and is often cited as proof that a superhero experience can work better in VR than on a classic screen, precisely thanks to the physical sensation of flight and aiming with one's own arms. Studio Camouflaj, previously known mainly for the smaller title Republique, built a reputation through Iron Man VR as the creator of one of the most ambitious and elaborate VR experiences on the platform. Even years later, the game remains frequently cited as one of the titles that best demonstrates why motion controllers can be more convincing for the feeling of flight than any analog joystick.
Why play: For superhero fans craving the feeling of true flight and aiming with your own arms, which a classic screen never achieves with the same conviction.
