Scarface: The World Is Yours
Scarface: The World Is Yours, released in 2006 by Radical Entertainment, offers an alternate sequel to the famous film starring Al Pacino — the game opens with the scene that meant Tony Montana's death in the film, except here the hero survives and has to rebuild his empire in Miami from scratch, this time without the help of old allies he can no longer trust.
The game is an open-world action title in the vein of Grand Theft Auto, where the player controls Montana as he conquers territory, wipes out rival gangs, and builds up his drug business — gradually taking over money-laundering fronts, nightclubs, and other establishments that generate a steady income for him. A signature feature is the Rage system, which fills up during shootouts and, once activated, temporarily boosts Tony's abilities, shooting accuracy, and resistance to being hit, giving the game a punchier, more aggressive action pace than rival open-world titles of the time. Besides shooting with pistols and submachine guns, the game also offers close-quarters combat and a wide arsenal of weapons the player gradually buys with money earned from controlled businesses.
Thanks to the open city, the ability to seize and expand your own businesses, and the presence of familiar voices from the film (including lines voiced by Al Pacino himself, who returned to the role of Tony Montana), Scarface: The World Is Yours became a popular PlayStation 2 alternative to the GTA series for players who didn't mind its harsher subject matter, rough language, and explicit violence.
Why play it: For the open city of Miami and the Rage system, which gives combat a different dynamic than the competition of the time.
