After many years of silence, the Skate brand has returned in the form of a game simply called Skate., a new, free-to-play online title being developed for Electronic Arts by the newly founded studio Full Circle, made up in part of veterans from the original trilogy from the late 2000s. The basic philosophy remains the same as in the previous entries: tricks aren't controlled with button combinations but with movements of the right analog stick, which tries to mimic the actual movement of feet on the board. This system, once groundbreaking and still characteristic of the whole series, remains the core of the game even after years of development, delays, and several rounds of closed testing.

On PC, Skate. arrives as a live-service title built on a single shared open city, San Vansterdam, which players explore together without being split into separate servers by platform. The game runs across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series with shared multiplayer (crossplay and cross-progression), so a player on PC will run into the console community in the same world and vice versa, carrying their progress across devices. As a live service, Skate. continuously receives new maps, seasonal challenges, leaderboards, and cosmetic items, with the developers gradually tuning content and balance based on feedback from players on all platforms at once, even during the early-access phase. It is therefore more of a long-term, growing world meant to change for years to come than a closed package with a fixed ending, as veterans knew from the original trilogy on older consoles, and players will get access to the content that gaming websites wrote about years ago gradually, along with everyone else.
