NiBiRu: Age of Secrets

Adventura 2005 Future Games ⏱ Long · ~10–30 h ⭐ Must-play

A reworked and graphically modernized version of the older Posel bohů with the same story.

Nibiru: Posel bohů, released abroad as NiBiRu: Age of Secrets, is an adventure game by studio Future Games representing a substantially reworked and graphically modernized version of the older title Posel bohů from the late nineties, with the story and characters preserved. The player takes on the role of archaeologist Martin Holan, who, while exploring a discovered German tunnel complex near Prague, comes across clues leading to the secret of the unknown planet Nibiru and an ancient conspiracy connected to it, reaching deep into humanity's past.

The gameplay rests on the classic adventure foundation - the player moves through dozens of locations divided into several chapters, collects and combines items in the inventory, and solves puzzles tied to the archaeological and mythological motifs of the story. The game features 3D animated characters, extensive dialogue with numerous supporting characters, and atmospheric visual effects and music that together create a mysterious, adventurous atmosphere reminiscent of popular archaeological thrillers and adventure films. Compared to the original version from the nineties, it represented a noticeable technical and visual leap that made the game accessible to an entirely new generation of players, without touching the story itself or its main characters. Underground complexes, ancient ruins, and secret laboratories form a varied range of settings that Martin Holan gradually works his way through during his investigation.

Nibiru: Posel bohů became one of Future Games studio's most commercially successful titles and was also released abroad under a foreign publisher, extending the reputation of the Czech adventure game scene far beyond the domestic market. To this day it is regarded as a quality representative of the archaeological-adventure genre and proof that a carefully executed remake of an older concept can work better with players and critics alike than the original from the late nineties.

Why play it: For fans of archaeological adventure games, it's a quality remake of an older concept that works better than the original from the late nineties and succeeded abroad as well.
