The Incredibles

Akční adventura 2004 Heavy Iron Studios ⏱ Medium · ~3–10 h

A decent adaptation of the Pixar film; Mr. Incredible smashes his surroundings with brute force, while the family plays differently.

The Incredibles is a game adaptation of the animated Pixar film of the same name, in which the player on the GameCube takes control of the superhero Parr family and works through a series of action levels inspired by the film as well as original events not covered by the film, taking place both before and after the main plot. The bulk of the game belongs to Mr. Incredible, whose superhuman strength lets him destroy the environment, lift and throw heavy objects, and crush entire waves of enemies at once in combat, while select passages let the player control other family members too, such as the flexible Elastigirl, able to stretch her limbs into narrow spaces, or the invisible Violet with her protective shield, each with her own movement style and combat abilities.

The gameplay relies on simple yet satisfying combat against large numbers of opponents at once, complemented by platforming passages and occasional puzzles that make use of each character's specific abilities, such as invisibility for sneaking past guarded areas unnoticed. The visual style faithfully mimics the look of the Pixar film, and even on the more limited GameCube hardware the game manages to preserve legible, colorful environments with strong stylization of both characters and settings. The soundtrack draws on the film's orchestral score, giving the game a suitably adventurous and heroic atmosphere matching the tone of the source material.

Among the film adaptations of the time, the game was among the better rated, because it offered more than a simple retelling of the film's plot — it expanded the world with its own situations and gave the player room to experiment with Mr. Incredible's and the other family members' powers. Today it is seen as one of the better film adaptations of its era, though it is clearly aimed more at a younger audience and offers a simpler, more straightforward experience rather than one aimed at players seeking depth or challenge.

Why play it: For younger players and fans of the film who will appreciate the expansion of the story with original situations and the chance to experiment with the powers of the Incredible family, rather than for players seeking depth or challenge.
